The TransLiberation Art Coalition (TLAC) was created to generate visibility, and to empower and elevate the lives of our transgender and gender nonconforming community. We fight erasure, hateful lawmaking, media misconceptions, and cisgender appropriation of our narratives by reclaiming our power and our voices. We are most known for our art shows, which we aim to grow significantly, as we establish ourselves through an online community, pop-up events, and new professional development opportunities for trans artists.
In these uncertain and trying times, community is more critical than ever for the transgender and gender nonconforming community. The pandemic has made creating that critical community tremendously difficult. TLAC is eager to step up in 2021, and meet that need, with a dynamic virtual event/permanent digital installation.
It’s a space story, virtual gallery and browser-based video game set in the future. The exact date is unknown to the player. Artists and sponsors will be represented by unique gallery spaces that hold clues and secrets from the past. The player can opt to collect these items as they peruse the virtual space and gallery. Trans artists from all over the world will be asked to create work specifically for this concept. Artist makeup will be at least 50% POC, 50% disabled and 50% femme. The scope and style of the game will be dictated by the funds raised.
Depending on where things are at COVID-wise, this virtual event may also be paired with a live event in early December of 2021. This would be a winter gala, sharing the futuristic, post-apocalyptic theme of the virtual gallery.
