Friends of the Fine Arts Quartet

The Fine Arts Quartet is one of the most distinguished ensembles in chamber music, having toured world-wide for 75 years and recorded over 200 works. The Quartet has considered Milwaukee its home-base for six decades.

Thanks to generous public support, winter concerts and week-long summer festival concerts were successfully staged in Milwaukee in 2018 and 2019. Programs return in 2022 with a winter concert (January 30) and a summer festival. Annual contributions are critical to continue these concerts; advance contributions determine the extent of concert offerings. Donations permit the concerts to be free to the public, allowing The Quartet audiences to expand and diversify. Scroll to the bottom of this page to donate online.

The Quartet’s renowned violinists, Ralph Evans (prizewinner in the International Tchaikovsky Competition) and Efim Boico (former concertmaster of the Orchestre de Paris under Daniel Barenboim), have performed together for nearly 40 years. Violist Gil Sharon and cellist Niklas Schmidt, who previously had been frequent guest artists with The Quartet, joined as members in 2018, following extensive touring with prominent chamber music groups.

In 2018 The Quartet gave 27 performances in the Americas and Europe, 37 in 2019, and 20 in 2020. The musicians experienced postponements due to the Covid-19 pandemic. With the recent lifting of the travel ban to Europe, The Quartet was able between July and October to give 11 invited performances in Italy, France, Germany, and Romania, including three in major international music festivals. The Quartet is eager to resume performances in Milwaukee before its loyal, enthusiastic audiences.
