About Faye Willems, Arts Day Artist-in-Residence:
I was born and raised in Northeast Wisconsin. I am a 28 year cancer survivor, which ultimately resulted in amputation of my leg. I told myself that if I can learn how to walk again, I can learn how to paint. All my treatments/ surgeries were at UW Hospital in Madison, so being in Madison for something exciting as in promoting my artwork on Arts Day is very satisfying for me.
I always admired how artists could tell a story and I was determined to tell my story. I took formal training at The Academy of Fine Art, in Denmark, WI. There I learned how to draw the human body, portrait drawing, oil painting, still life composition and drawing, & sculpture, studying under Wisconsin Artists, Molly Johnson, David Carpenter, Lori Berlinger, Bren Sibilsky, and Patrick Burke. I attended watercolor workshops in Green Bay and Mineral Point,WI. My artwork has been on display at The ARTGarage & The Weidner Center, in Green Bay, Mitchell Airport in Milwaukee, Art on the Square and VSA Gallery in Madison, WI.
At Arts Day, continuing the “ tell a story” theme, I will be sharing different watercolor techniques, wet-on-wet, watercolor & ink, negative paintings, to help Arts Day participants make their own book markers. I will also have several of my paintings on display.
