Advocacy Calendar 2019

Now is the time to be involved as an activist and leader for the arts and community.   True, effective advocacy is an ongoing process, and it’s all about engagement with decision makers starting from the ground up. Building relationships takes time and work.   Creative, positive, and vigilant leadership and action are needed from all of us.  Get involved!  We’ll keep updating this list throughout the year.

January 2019

  • Register for Arts Day 2019 on Tuesday, March 12, at the Overture Center for the Arts in downtown Madison.  It’s Wisconsin’s biggest day for the arts and you should not miss it.
  • The 116th US Congress and the 2019-2021 Wisconsin State Legislature begin on January 7.  Make sure you know who your state and federal elected representatives are and add them to your mailing, social media, and other lists, so they know what’s happening with the arts and creative sector in their districts.  Click here for Wisconsin state legislator info and here for US Congress info.
  • Check out Arts Wisconsin’s Legislative Action Center for news, issues, actions.
  • Sign on to Arts Wisconsin’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) to stay up to date on what’s happening in the arts, arts education and creative economy locally and globally.
  • Join or renew your membership in Arts Wisconsin so we can grow our work on behalf of Wisconsin’s amazing arts sector, ensure access to the arts for everyone, everywhere in the state, and expand investment in Wisconsin’s creative sector.

February 2019:

  • Gov. Evers  state budget will be released by the end of the month.  Arts Wisconsin is leading the way for innovative programs and policies to grow Wisconsin creatively.  Check out our Legislative Action Center to stay up to date and active.
  • Contact your legislators and invite them to a local arts performance, exhibit or program, so they have first-hand experience of the arts in their community.
  • Register for Arts Day 2019.

March 2017:

  • Arts Day 2019 happens on Tuesday, March 12, at the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison.  See you there!
  • Wisconsin Governor’s Conference on Tourism, March 17-19, 2019, at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
  • Host a “coffee visit” get-together in your home. Invite arts-supportive neighbors and elected officials to discuss the importance of Wisconsin’s creative sector and arts opportunities.  Contact Arts Wisconsin at info@artswisconsin.org to learn more about hosting this kind of meeting-we’ll help you make it happen!
  • Join or renew your membership in Arts Wisconsin so we can grow our work on behalf of Wisconsin’s amazing arts sector, ensure access to the arts for everyone, everywhere in the state, and expand investment in Wisconsin’s creative sector.

April 2019:

  •  Advocacy for the state budget continues, with Joint Finance Committee hearings happening around the state.
