- Policy| issue | ideas roundtable sessions:
Emerging Leaders: Wisconsin's emerging arts leaders are invited to start the discussion about building a network of friends and colleagues! Facilitated by Erin McLennon, Wisconsin Arts Board, and Ann Mosey, Arts Alliance of Portage County
Arts Activism 101: If this is your first Arts Day -- or if you want to improve your skills to communicate effectively with your legislators and other elected officials -- join us to learn how to share your story in this informal, educational session. Led by Eric Uram of Headwater Consulting, community activist and longtime lobbyist with lots of experience and legislative successes.
Integrating Art and Design into the School Curriculum: The role of the arts in education is more important than ever before, as copious global research points to the critical problem-solving, creative thinking, teambuilding, and confidence skills that will help our students, and our state, succeed in the future. Join a spirited discussion about the ways in which the arts are, and can be, used to provide quality education for all students. Led by Karin Wolf, City of Madison Arts Coordinator
Making the creative economy work in your community: We all talk about investing in our creative resources, but what does that kind of program look like? Get together with your colleagues to talk about examples and ideas for your community. Led by Beverly Stencel, Community Development Educator for Washburn County Extension, who has been extensively involved with the Wisconsin's Northwest Heritage Passage regional cultural development program.
Creative Promotion and Marketing for your arts program: Chew on some creative ideas to get people involved and interested in your work! Led by Annaluna Karkar, Executive Director, Wausau Dance Theatre

10:15 am-1 pm
- Constituent meetings with legislators
State Capitol
This is the main focus of Arts Day -- it's your chance to let your legislator(s) know of the many arts opportunities in your community, and ask him/her to support the 2007 Legislative Action Agenda and invest in the arts in his/her district and statewide. The Assembly will schedule legislator appointments unless otherwise advised by a constituent.
When meeting with your legislator, describe the impact of additional arts funds in your community. This is the most effective argument for additional support. We will have updated position statements to take to your legislators, but the most important thing is that they know what the Wisconsin Arts Board funds in their districts. Be specific. Tell stories. Bring short, simple one page descriptions of your programs. Thank legislators for their support of the arts. (Click here for more action strategies on commucating with decision makers.)
