2010 Community Meetings on the Arts
Since its beginnings in the early 1990s, Arts Wisconsin has traveled the state to meet and connect with artists, constituents, and arts supporters, and promote the incredible range of cultural opportunities available in Wisconsin. The Arts Board, the state agency for the arts, and Arts Wisconsin, the statewide membership organization dedicated to arts advocacy and service, work in partnership to build and sustain Wisconsin’s communities through the arts, and ensure access to the arts for everyone in the state.
Arts Wisconsin is leading the way at the intersection of arts and cultural activity, community development, and economic and educational advancement throughout Wisconsin. In spring 2010, Arts Wisconsin has been hitting the road to host a series of regional meetings on the arts. These informal, interactive meetings, held in large and small communities across the state, bring together arts constituents and other community leaders to envision and act on the future of the arts in those communities and in Wisconsin by:
- discussing local and statewide issues affecting the arts in Wisconsin’s communities
- sharing ideas, needs, and success stories
- developing plans and strategies for future action.
Arts Wisconsin will use these meetings to provide and gather critical information on the local and state levels, strengthen bonds with constituents, and develop strategic plans to use the arts to help Wisconsin’s communities survive and thrive. Arts Wisconsin will also share this information with the Wisconsin Arts Board to help inform its work as the state agency dedicated to the arts.
Across Wisconsin, people and communities are using creativity and the arts to help resolve budget problems, attract and retain business, grow the economy, and stop the “brain drain” of young people leaving communities for other opportunities. Investment in cultural programs and opportunities is not a separate priority—it’s vital to the overall health and well-being of the people of Wisconsin.
Everyone interested in the health and well-being of their community – including artists, arts organization representatives, arts supporters, audience members, educators, business people, funders, elected officials, and others -- are invited to let their voices be heard at these important civic forums.
